I have an old ARR 2M preamp that has recently died. I had a near lightning strike. It was a nice little amp and I would like to repair it. I have searched and cannot find any source for the MGF-1402 transistor. Would anyone have a few that they would be willing to sell? Thanks in advance. Doug K0DSP

In this article: https://www.qsl.net/yu1aw/Misc/USpreV.pdf he states that you can use MGF 1202, -1302, -1400, 1402, -1412, -1303, CFY12, -13, -14 with no component changes; this is probably true for your ARR preamp. I'm leaving proof. Purchased two BLF888A, and both were good on stand by current but only one of them was responding to drive. I have successfully substituted the NE334-S01 for the MGF-1302 GasFet by adding a 300-ohm resistor in the drain lead to lower the 5v from the 78L05 volt-reg to 2v at the drain. The NE device draws 10ma. All the other components work fine with the NE334-S01 and you typically can expect a NF of 0.2-dB vs the 0.5-dB with the stock GasFet. Gain is about 25-dB. You can use a 200-ohm chip resistor with a micro variable 100-ohm resistor to adjust for min NF (which is close to max gain). I would not raise drain volt higher than 2.5v so start with variable resistor at max resistance. You might even find min NF near 1.8v so use a 200-ohm multi-turn trim pot with 200-ohm chip, in series. But if you have no way to measure NF then just use a 300-ohm chip resistor. Cut trace on bottom side of ckt board between 5v reg and transistor drain. NE334-S01 are available from Pete-WA2ODO for about $7.50.
