Hi all,
In 2019 and in 2020 we celebrated 50 and 51 years moonlanding by bouncing
images off the moon using SSTV
In 2020 we were lucky to be able to do it in between two viral waves. The
rest of the year the big dish was closed.
At the moment we are again slowly and cautiously starting activities at
PI9CAM.
Because we would like to make this SSTV party an annual event we are
planning to do it in a small way this year on Tuesday August 10.
We are not allowed to be in the cabin of the dish for many hours at the time
(because of the virus) so we can only do a short event.
But short is better than nothing.
We hope to be able to start around 10:45 UTC
We will transmit several lunar landing and space related images on 1296.110
MHz
We will use SSTV mode MARTIN 2.
SSTV software used here is MMSSTV.
We are curious to see and hear from you what results you get.
Of course a bigger antenna is better but we have had some surprisingly good
SSTV reports in the past from moderate dish stations.
Even with a 2.5 or 3 m dish you should be able to see some distinguishable
images.
We also encourage you to try sending some SSTV images yourself and see what
the results will be.
We will be on the HB9Q logger to coordinate.
We probably have to stop around 14:45 UTC
We know that because of this short time window we will not be able to reach
every station on the globe.
We hope we can do a full moon pass again in 2022.
Nevertheless we hope to see many images off the moon!
73!

Hello Yesterday Saturday July 31 around 09h UT I launched a few CQs from the
Radio-Club F5KUG in the company of 2 newbie's CW EMERS .QRG: 1296.020 MHz ..
The echos were well audible despite the fairly low moon over the Caribbean
Sea ..Therefore a fairly high noise level. 2 stations replied: one with a
QRO signal but in CW too fast for us. I asked for QRS but without success.
the other with a signal too weak to be decoded. Sorry !
I thank these two stations for responding hoping for a valid contact next
time.

More sad news and the passing of our great friend. I first met Philippe in
person at the EME conference in Paris in 1998. Since 1995 I have made
numerous contacts with him on almost all bands. Only due to an accident he
suffered while replacing a feed in a dish, I have not been able to make the
6 and 3cm bands. Philippe rest in peace and thanks for all the work you did
for our amateur EME radio community.
I'll never forget.

Dear Friends,
I have been asked to pass on the very sad news that our good friend
Philippe, F2TU, passed away this morning. Many of you will remember that he
suffered terrible injuries in a fall while changing his dish feeds in
September 2012 and has now eventually succumbed.
Philippe was one of the greats of EME from the early days, very active on
the UHF and microwave bands, an experimenter and an excellent engineer,
always with a big signal on CW and SSB and a regular attendee at the
conferences. He has been missed by us all since that awful accident, which
made many of us review how we worked on our dishes.
RIP my dear friend, our condolences to Marie Therese and the family.
