Hi dish guru's ,
After lot of reading , vk3um-sm6fhz-ok1dfc-kl6m to name a few I don't know
what will be the best choice anymore.
I have a 4.5M (15ft) dish F/d = 0.45 (unassembled) from RFHAMDESIGN since
January waiting to get on a lift crane system ( NEKO 400A)
First intention was for 23cm only with a septum feed .... but my 4 x 38 elem
M2 on 432Mhz are a big pain in the ..
When its dry they work FB even for single yagi stations like TO2EME -
PJ7/PE1L - E44CM but asap that it rains or even when humidity gets high
SWR goes up dramatically and kicks out my AMP.
I am for now the only ON qrv on 432Mhz but limited to weather conditions.
Depending on the specs from the 4.5M dish the gain will be equal to the 4
stack except that I will have the benefit of switching H-V ,
With a motor even all in between.
Will it be possible (with min of losses) to have both 23cm (septum feed )
and 70cm mounted together ?
If YES what feed do I need to build or buy for 70cm to have both H and V
If NO what will be my best option for a 4.5M - F/d = 0.45 dish ?

Hey all
I’m interested how to adjust VK3UM to get some accurate figures for offset dishes?
I’ve acquired a 2.4m Andrews offset which I am looking to dedicate to 10g (and maybe 6cm if it performs ok )
That leaves the 5m dish for 23.13 and 9 as dedicated
So far I simply adjusted the dish size to match the gain in the dish performance data so far
I can play around with the feed and F/D and these can vary results quite a lot
An offset at 2.4 should be about 3m for a full parabola?
I’m keen to see what sun/moon noise a 2.4 offset should see
How can I adjust the VK3UM settings to reflect (get it!) the true nature of the offset?

Thinking about adding MAP65 and wondering about a few things:
1 - The cheapest and easiest way to do (single polarization) this for under $200? It looks to me like this would be by using a FunCube Pro+ dongle for around $170. As far as I can tell you can couple this directly (USB) to a Windows PC running MAP65 without needing Linrad or other intermediate software. Does this sound correct?
2 - MAP65 is said to takes up more processor resources than WSJT. Would a quad-core I5-2500 @ 3.3Ghz be fast enough to run a FunCube Pro+ and MAP65 system? I have an older 2-core laptop that struggles when running SDR software with a cheap SDR dongle, but that machine is about 6x slower than the desktop I use for radio applications. I'd rather not have to buy a new PC!
3 - Finally a real beginner question. How does MAP65 handle Tx? Does (can) it control the transceiver Tx frequency via CAT? Does the operator dial in the Tx frequency on the transciever? It seems to me that you'd be running separate Tx and Rx systems. How to you coordinate frequencies? Or am I missing something here?
I'm sure the answers to all these questions can be found on the web and in the manuals, but due to a neurological problem, I have trouble reading and technical manuals are the hardest things to read! So please forgive "dumb" questions!

I wonder if there are some EME capable or other high power stations on 432
MHz who would like to test the Geminids meteor shower. As far as I could
find it will peak between 13 and 14 December. The predicted peak around 21Z.
I can't get into e-mail contact with YU1EV but I know he is interested. I
will be often on the ON4KST chat page.
Please can someone get the information over to him?
I am especially looking for stations from YU, 9A, S5 as they are on an ideal
distance for MS.
But any other EU station at MS distance will have my interest too.

Hi all,
With my 2m prime focus dish, I'm not that keen on a septum waveguide feed,
sticking out from the feed point, some 60cm and pre-amps and cables etc. etc..
This "Penny Feed" idea brings the feed back into the dish centre, a dead area
usually blocked by the feed anyway. Short cables can then go through my dish
centre, reducing messy cables enormously. I can even replace the feed struts
with fiberglass rods.
My question is, can the waveguide here (below) be square (or round) as with
a septum circular polarised feed?

I think that is correct but check with Serge-VE1KG as I believe he is
using the FuncubePro+ and can probably coach you thru setting it up;
I do not have the Funcubepro+. I just got one of the original
RTL-SDR but not planning to use it on eme.

I am running MAP65 on a 2008 duo-core 2.3 GHz cpu under winXP32 SP3
with no issues. I just bought a new Dell Inspiron i5-6400 3.3 GHz
desktop with 8GB, 1TB HD and 1GHz ethernet to replace using my
Inspiron laptop for general purpose internet/e-mail/website
maint. Laptop goes back into computer briefcase for travel
usage. Got a good cyber-monday price and it arrives tomorrow by Fedex.
The XP computer will continue to do the ham radio control sw but will
be off-line so will not need to worry about cyber attacks with the old OS.

MAP65 keys the radio using a com port. Probably you only have USB
ports on a modern computer so will need USB/RS232 conversion cable so
you can utilize either DTR or RTS line for keying Tx. For eme that
should be a sequencer that then controls all transfer from Rx to
Tx. You may need a computer interface box (I built my first one HB):

For controlling Tx frequency of the radio from MAP65 I use Trakbox sw
by IK7EZN. It works with several common radios. Free sw and pretty
easy to set up. It uses a com port as well.
