Dear friends,
I'm looking for eight 75 Ohm type N panel-mount receptacles. The only source that I have found is Pasternak<https://www.pasternack.com/n-female-standard-solder-cup-terminal-connector-…>, at $12.50/ea. I'd like to do better. Pointers appreciated.

My wife & I will be in Costa Rica from April 12 to the 26th . We will be staying at the Hilton Papagayo twenty minutes from Liberia. We would like to meet EME folks or want to be EME folks. Looking forward to thaw out after an Horrendous winter.

Hi Loren, I have found a satellite dish in the dumpster before going to work. It was for Dish Network that somebody had thrown away. As I pulled it out I looked at the back part of the dish mounting and found that there was a mechanism that was for elevating the dish. So I took the dish off and all the other junk, like the bolts that lock the elevation into place. Now I have just the elevation assembly mount that free flows up and down. I have to get a piece of tubing to weld to the top plate of the assembly, but yet I still have to decide what size tubing so I can tap in 3 places to fit bolts to tighten the smaller PVC tubing that will fit into the base tubing. The 432 Mhz 18 element will be mounted on the PVC for an insulation purpose. You might look for a scrap dish or a manufacture that produces dishes so you can get that assembly as a part. And yes, a piece of rope on ether side of the boom of your yagi will control your elevation. I hope this helps.

I never charge on donation preamps ... the little profit on the ones I
sell pays that.

Tom,
I agree with you concerning the older MAR4/6/11 devices.
However, I think that you will find that the PHA1+ is closer to 16+dB gain
which would indicate an input IP3 of +25dBm
In tests we have found the MGA 30689 to only have 14.5dB gain at 144MHz, so
with a nearly identical OIP3 it will have a dB or so advantage on input IP3.
The other device to consider is the ADL5535 which has an OIP3 of 45.5dBm and
16dB of gain.
I would put a bandpass filter between the front end and second stage to
minimise intermodulation products generated by out of band signals.
After a number of tests we selected the MGA 30689 for a post mixer amplifier
in a 144/28MHz transverter although all three were far better than the
mixer!

Hi Ed,
The part that I look at is P3 and 1 db compression That will radically set
the garbage IN THE RECEIVER OBSERVED, vary with location.
Here 20 years ago had to go with much improved IMD resistance transverter
redesign to operate on the ham bands do to commercial and cell stations.
so if was building new equipment would observe the practice of using high P3
devices in new construction.
As to failure that I would look at the mounting technique to provide device
cooling as needed for the PHA-1 device, that is a 2 separate mount tabs to
circuit board .
The change to a MAR-6 is wrong direction for today's receiver preamps over
the new HI P3 devices and Hi 1 db compression specs.
Mar-6 is about +3 dbm =1db compression
P3 is +14.5 dbm
In the suggestion for a 2nd stage amp this is what I looked at to use in
this design suggestion.
PHA-1+ is 22.4 db =1db compression
P3 is +42.0 dbm
As you can see a large improvements over the MAR-6 device.
This will be a major improvement for IMD and overload in the new design over
the old design.
as to the failure of the PHA-1 in your circuit, that is a subject to be
looked into as I suspect that device mounting may be the culprit,
have not looked at failure life that minicircuits engineering specifies for
that device on their site.
As I am not building stuff now this information can be found on the
minicircuits site to see why you had failures using that device.
In closing I would NOT use a MAR-6 for a second amp in today's new devices
and design.

Hi Pete,
Actually I am located in UK (working close to London).
What is your best offer to send one of them to UK?
I do not make or take offers. My suggestion
is to buy on from DB6NT ...see if they will take an offer.
